Chandigarh, Aug, 24, It was really an eventful day at Tagore Theatre as children from the city and vicinity had the opportunity to watch some of the most intriguing and educative films.

The day started with the film "The Policing Langur" by Ajay and Vijay Bedi. As Monkey menace has been a concern in the city, the audience really identified with the film. Another film 'A Brush with death' by Syed Fayaz, was received very well by the children. His interaction with the children took a very special moment when students along with the director took a pledge not to buy painting brush made of mongoose hair.

Besides filmmakers the festival also witnessed the presence of subject experts from the city. Mr. Ishwar Singh, Director Dept of Environment, Chandigarh, Mr. Raj Shekhar, DFO Pathankot and Dr. N. S. Tiwana ED, PSCST, addressed the queries by the students. The festival saw an overwhelming presence of school students. Their enthusiasm, and reactions after films, reflected the impact that these films had on them.

Chandigarh CMS Vatavaran 2006 also hosted a symposium on "Environment and Agriculture." Two highly prominent and stimulating films were screened in the beginning of the symposium. In his remarks Dr. Johl, Vice Chairman, Planning Board Punjab emphasized on avoiding the use of pesticides and other poisonous substances and on shifting to organic farming. Filmmaker Mr. Ramesh Menon mentioned that in our country there are numerous chemicals that have been banned in the foreign countries and are still being used in India. Even few like endosulphan that are banned in the southern states are still being used in Punjab.

The photographer whose works have been exhibited at Tagore Theatre were also honored in the evening. The evening screenings witnessed the presence of Mr. Himanshu Malhotra, whose film, Seasons of the Sun on wetlands in Bharatpur and Siberian Crane enthralled the audience.
