The National Media Consultation on Wetlands Conservation marks the culmination of a year-long series of impactful initiatives under the Wetlands for LiFE initiatives across multiple Indian cities including Patna, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Bhopal, Shimla, Srinagar, and Lucknow. Organized by Centre for Media Studies (CMS), this initiative is part of the 'Wetlands Management for Biodiversity and Climate Protection' project, implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
The three-day program features: Future Journalists Workshop (Day 1): A specialized training at Jamia Hamdard University for journalism students, focusing on environmental reporting and wetlands conservation storytelling. Media Professionals Consultation (Day 2): An intensive dialogue at The LaLiT, New Delhi, featuring leading environmental journalists and experts discussing challenges and solutions in wetlands reporting.Field Experience (Day 3): A guided visit to Surajpur Wetlands, Greater Noida, providing hands-on exposure to wetland ecosystems.
Through interactive sessions, panel discussions, and field visits to wetlands, participants will gain deep insights into ecological significance, threats to wetland ecosystems, and the role of storytelling in fostering public action. This consultation serves as a powerful finale, urging media professionals to amplify the importance of wetlands as vital lifelines for biodiversity, water security, and climate resilience.
