Suchitra Films Society
The film society movement in Karnataka has always been vibrant and has contributed to world cinema some its most celebrated practioners . Among the many film societies which have enriched the cultural fabric of the State is Suchitra, which, right since its inception 35 years ago, has never looked back on its religious commitment to good cinema. It has had the distinction of being the first film society in the country ever to build its own theatre. This humble 120 - seater has since served as a haven to those to whom a film is not just a flick, a blockbuster or a purveyor of transient dreams, but, as Francis Ford Coppola, one of the greatest film makers of the world, put it, the combination of extraordinary images of people during emotional moments put together in an alchemy.
If Suchitra is a cultural landmark in Bangalore, the metropolis itself is India's pride. Bangalore today has become a brand name the world over and has been eulogized with various epithets - India's most happening city, India's Silicon Valley, knowledge city, garden city et al. It is the fastest growing Indian city with a population crossing 7 million, and one of the fastest growing cities in the entire world with a quality of life which is the envy of important Indian cities it has already overtaken or is threatening to overtake.
