Punjab State Council for Science and Technology
The Punjab State Council for Science & Technology is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Govt. of Punjab. The council endeavours to harness the potential of science & technology as an instrument of socio-economic change and environment improvement. The philosophy of the council is to ensure that science & technology is not restricted to scientific laboratories or universities and academic institutions but percolates to the grass roots so that it becomes a part of the every day life of people of Punjab.
The council acts as a technical secretariat for the State Department of Science, Technology & Environment with focus on the following areas:
- - Environment
-- Science Popularisation
-- Biotechnology
-- Industrial Pollution Control
-- Water Resource Management
It assists the department in formulation of policies & programs, coordination & monitoring of conservation projects, creation of public awareness in environment, science popularisation, biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights, capacity building in these areas and promotion of environment education and information dissemination. The council also provides consultancy to small scale industries for pollution control. It has been instrumental in conceptualising and establishing the Science City, Punjab Biodiversity Board, Punjab Biotechnology Park, Patent Information Centre, etc.
The Environment Information Centre (ENVIS) is functional within the Environment Division of the Council. The main objective of the ENVIS Centre is to disseminate information on the State Environment and related issues for public use.
