Manthan Yuva Sansthan is Non Governmental Registered Voluntary Organisation based 1n Ranchi, Jharkhand. Since its inception the main thrust has been upon "Creation of an environment where people enjoy opportunity for their wholesome development" . The organization Mission has been promotion of greater equity and justice in society, ensuring a sustainable livelihood and Creation of a opportunity to lead a life of dignity and self respect. In last five year Manthan has collaborated with, NFI, British High Commission, PACS-DA Delhi, VSO-UK, FES India, Charkha, NCSTC, NCAS-Pune and several governmental and nongovernmental agencies.

Manthan Interventions are in these areas:

  1. Education and skill development programme
  2. Rural Governance and decentralisation
  3. Development Communication
Manthan has mandate in the field of development communication. Manthan uses different forms of communication for social transformation and empowerment through training and performing. The development communication programme creatively uses media for promoting concerns of the marginalized. It aims at developing communication initiatives in the area of gender equity and justice, public issues and governance. Manthan has a band of development communicators. Manthan has a studio with audio and audio-visual production facilities.

Capacity building programmes conducted so far

Manthan has so far successfully conducted more than one dozen capacity building programmes of this genre, where a broad range of people who mould public opinion have been empowered with communication skills. From grassroots activists to rural journalists, stingers, village community workers and Gram Sabha functionaries, women activists, tribal groups and movement leaders, all have gained in no small measure from Manthan's workshops. And of course, Manthan also gained in this process, learning and assimilating new perspectives.

Here are the following development communication initiatives of the Manthan:
Radio : Manthan was technical partner of Community Radio project at Daltongunj. Manthan produced a 13 - episode radio serial on Panchayati Raj and Self-Governance for AIR, Ranchi for community empowerment. Three musical audio cassettes has been produced by us towards awareness generation on Panchayati Raj institutions.

Community Radio: After the Daltongunj experiment Manthan is using radio technology for community development and empowerment in 15 villages of Angara Block of Ranchi District. Community radio has been successful in giving "Voice" to the "Voiceless" of marginalized communities of Angara. Half an hour weekly programme is broadcast by Akashwani, Ranchi on every Sunday from 6.30 P.M. to 7.00 P. M. About 34 episodes have been broadcasted till now "Pechual man ke swar" is done in collaboration with British High Commission,. Community Radio has boosted the confidence of the community of the villages of Angara. The community volunteers are trained from time to time about the concept of community radio, its relevance, content, development and technical aspects. Thus about hundred of volunteers have been enjoying the opportunity to become the voice of voiceless of Angara. Manthan also initiate Wall News paper in two district of Jharkhand at Lohardaga and Ranchi. Village volunteer are work in wall newspaper are at village level and they work advocacy on several issues with government department.

Samvad Manthan : It is a feature-cum-media advocacy programme. Samvad Manthan disseminates 10 features fortnightly on the key issues of Jharkhand to 30 Hindi newspapers of India. About 800 Features ranging from issues on food security, food for work, health, education, governance, environment, water, MoU, forest, land rights, and different government policy etc. have been published in different newspapers. The idea is to mainstreaming the key issues of Jharkhand in the media for sensitisation and mass awareness. Apart from the feature service sensitisation programme to journalists and media training to grass roots activists for the strengthening of communication cadre building programme.

Samvad Manthan A/V: Manthan uses the potential and effectiveness of electronic media (Audio-visual) for community empowerment. With the support of NFI, New Delhi, Manthan has initiated a half an hour weekly new magazine on the issues of the Jharkhand. Production and public show of the documentary films on Jharkhand issues are to sensitise public on the issue and moot pressure on authority.

Media Workshop: Being newly formed state Jharkhand provides opportunity to influence the policies at draft stage. Manthan believes that by an integrated communication approach development and social issues can be addressed. Grass root activists through their writings on issues of grass root can definitely act as a link between the grass root and policy makers. Media writing workshop was organized at different level of Jharkhand i.e. Giridih, Dhanbad, Daltongunj, Dumka, Hazaribag Ranchi etc..

Manthan has a well-versed dedicated team for Print, Audio-Visual and Community Radio. We have the most update infrastructure, library and reference section for good dissemination of information & issues.
