The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and the technical secretariat of the U20 (urban engagement track of G20), is organising the Urban Climate Film Festival under the CITIIS program. The Urban Climate Film Festival is curated by CMS VATAVARAN. The festival intends to showcase the impact of climate change on life in cities and contribute to the discourse on climate-centric urban development. CITIIS (City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain) is a joint program of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU), and NIUA.
This festival aims to showcase climate change's impact on life in cities, contribute to the discourse on climate-centric urban development, and provide a platform for filmmakers and other practitioners to bring to light pressing concerns related to climate. The call for entries for the festival received an overwhelming response, with 150 films submitted from more than 18 countries. A curated selection of the most impactful films are being screened at the Urban Climate Film Festival, The festival was launched in New Delhi on 24th March 2023. The inaugural session was chaired by G20 Sherpa Mr Amitabh Kant. The festival afterwards travelled to Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai respectively. The Mumbai Urban Climate Film Festival was held from 27th April to 29th April 2023 at Alliance Française, Theosophy Hall, Marine Lines, Churchgate, Mumbai. The Urban Climate Film Festival travelled to Kolkata at Nazrul Tirtha, New Town from 3rd to 5th June. The Urban Climate Film Festival travelled to Chennai at Alliance Française of Madras, College Rd from 27th to 29th July (from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm). The screenings were accompanied by interactive sessions with filmmakers.
