With environmental issues dominating the global platform, documenting and filming current environmental challenges and concerns have also received a great deal of fillip. It also got reflected in 6th CMS VATAVARAN 2011, the Call for Entry which closed on July 31. The festival received more than 300 entries from 27 countries and 21 Indian states. The films were broadly on ten thematic areas including Biodiversity, climate change and sustainable technologies, environmental conservation, water for all, animation, livelihood etc.
In the international category maximum number of films have been received from the USA (23), followed by Germany and France with nine films each from both the countries. Among Asian countries Japan and Kuwait sent four films each, followed by Malaysia (3), Nepal (2), Iran (2) and Pakistan (1).
In the National Category, 59 films have come from Delhi, followed by Maharashtra (45), Karnataka (15), Tamil Nadu (14), Andhra Pradesh (13), Kerala (13) and Uttar Pradesh (11). Three films have come from the North East including two from Assam and one from Manipur. Jammu and Kashmir has also made its presence in the festival with one entry.
