Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich biodiversity. But the rapid rate of urbanization and commercialization is fast changing the identity and look of the city. It has become a sprawling commercial hub today with a growing population that is overwhelming the existing infrastructure. Shillong’s sprawl has triggered extensive challenges in land use with stone quarries and mines dotting the landscape.

The 4th CMS VATAVARAN—Environment and Wildlife Travelling Film Festival and Environment Forum is being organised at Shillong from September 1-3, 2010 at State Central Library, Shillong.

The theme of the three day long festival is climate change and sustainable technologies. The festival and forum aims to promote sustainable technologies, with a focus on green production and delivery methods, convergence and fusion of new consumer services, and on the notion of 'collective goods' for greater environmental efficiency, which can usher in a new green order.

Through a kaleidoscope of green films, seminars, workshops, open forums, exhibition, games and field trips the festival will provide unique opportunity to the people of Shillong to enhance their knowledge and understanding about issues like climate change, water, forest, nature, wildlife conservation, ecotourism and natural heritage conservation.
