Revathy, Actor and Director

Revathy was introduced into films by the veteran director Bharathi Rajaa in his film 'Mann Vasanai , in 1983. Since then she has done more than 100 films in five Indian languages. She has received several awards like the Film Fare Awards, Film Fans Association awards and the Cinema Express awards. She has received the Tamil Nadu State Award for her performance in 'Pudumai Penn' and 'Thalamurai'. And National Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal in the film ' Devar Magan', directed by Bharathan. Revathy is an exponent in Classical Bharathanatyam, into which she was inducted from the age of 7yrs under the able guidance of Kalaimamani Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman at Saraswathi Gana Nilayam, Triplicane. MITR - MY FRIEND is her first Directorial venture. The film has won acclaim all over the world in various Film Festivals. MITR has won the National awards for the Best Actress - Shobana; Best Editor - Bina Venu and The Best English Feature Film in the year 2002. Revathy also received the Silver Peacock, Jury award for Direction, in the International Film Festival of India at Delhi in Oct 2002. PHIR MILENGE, staring Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, was her second directorial venture. She won wide critical acclaim for the film. Revathy is also involved in many social activities involving the people with disabilities and children.
