India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, October 28-30, 2009
Theme: "Bridging North-South Differences in Reporting Climate Change: Journalists' Role in Reaching an Agreement at COP15 in Copenhagen"
Background : With the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009 (COP15), negotiations on a post 2012 agreement have intensified yet there is little consensus and uneven media attention worldwide.

This is why the IFEJ Congress has as its theme "Bridging North-South Differences in Reporting Climate Change: Journalists' Role in Reaching an Ambitious Agreement at COP15 in Copenhagen". In 2009, its Congress will be held concurrently with the fifth CMS VATAVARAN - Environment and Wildlife Film Festival.

It will be followed by a six-day field trip to Leh in Ladakh from October 31 to November 5, 2009, that will offer journalists an opportunity to film, photograph and write on Himalayan glacial melt. Two more field trips will be organized to expose the journalists to climate change adaptation measures in drought-prone and flood-prone area in the country.

The Congress and the field trips will provide deep insights into the North-South perspectives prior to the Copenhagen meeting with the objective of helping to reconcile the differences.
