Ms Tomar is the festival director of CMS VATAVARAN since
its inception. She also heads the Environment Research Group and the ENVIS
Centre at CMS. She has conducted several research projects on assessing
knowledge, attitude and practice prevailing in communities and formulating
communication strategies accordingly leading to change in behaviour. She
was also in the 2006 Jury of 3rd Green Film Festival in Seoul, Korea.
She was the only Indian in the final jury.
A post-graduate in Environmental Sciences, her area of specialization
includes environmental education, natural resource and solid waste management.
With eight years of experience in project planning, design and management,
she has conducted research to formulate locale specific conservation education,
communication and social mobilization strategies. Tomar also undertakes
outreach programmes for creating awareness among students and also to
sensitize electronic media practitioners. She is pursuing her PhD in communicating
climate change from University of Stirling, Scotland, UK.
She has conducted research and analysis on pertinent issues like nitrate
pollution in drinking water and sanitation, climate change, natural resource
management, ground water, occupational health hazards in industrial areas,
effluent treatment facilities, vehicular pollution, bio-medical waste
management, alternative fuels for vehicles.
She has also a number of research papers, chapters published to her credit
in journals and books. She has four books published to her credit.
